WHZJU delegation visits Brigham and Women's Hospital 2020-03-10

With the purpose of promoting international strategic collaboration, on July 18th 2019, the delegation of WHZJU paid a visit at Brigham and Women's Hospital (BWH), a teaching affiliate of Harvard Medical School. Members of our delegation were Executive Deputy Secretary and Vice President Dr. Hongping Wu, Vice President Dr. Dan Zhang, and Program Coordinator of International Affairs Office Ms. Liuyin Wu. Dr. Gufeng Xu, who has been conducting a collaborative research at BWH, also participated.

At BWH, the delegation had meetings regarding potential collaboration with heads of Brigham Health International (BHI) and key departments, including Dr. Mark Davis (Vice President of business development and medical affairs of BHI), Dr. Jeffrey Golden (Chair of Department of Pathology), Dr. Marisa Nucci (Vice Chair of Women’ s and Perinatal Pathology Division), Dr. William Mayo-Smith(Vice Chair, Department of Radiology), Dr. Karen Lemaire (Executive deputy director, Department of Radiology), Dr. Ross Berkowitz (Director of Gynecology and Gencologic Oncology), Dr. Mark Hornstein (Director of Reproductive endocrinology division) et al.

In the meeting, Dr. Mark Davis, on behalf of BWH, extended a warm welcome to the delegation, and spoke about history, core values and development visions of BWH. Executive Deputy Secretary and Vice President Dr. Hongping Wu, on behalf of our delegation expressed the heartfelt gratitude to BWH for their hospitality, and Vice President Dr. Dan Zhang introduced the general information, highlights and achievements in clinical services, scientific researches and international cooperation of WHZJU. Both sides spoke high of each other’s development and achievements, and looked forward to establishing substantial collaborative relationship. With further understandings, both sides had in-depth discussions and reached a preliminary consensus on long-term collaboration mechanisms in terms of initial assessment, education and training, clinical services, tele-medicine platform, joint scientific research.

Moreover, the delegation also had a communication with Dr. Robert Barbieri, Chair of Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Accompanied by Dr. Yawei Kong, assistant director of Business Development of BHI, the delegation visited International Patient Center, Lee Bell Breast Center of Department of Radiology, Department of Pathology, Center for Infertility and Reproductive Surgery.

During the visit, the delegation was very impressed by cultural construction of BWH. The hospital overall layout and medical environment form a warm and comfortable atmosphere, reflecting the humanistic care of BWH. In addition to the considerations for patients, the hospital also attaches great importance to workplace environment and staff satisfaction. For example, in many places, there are columns of honor for staff, the exquisite bronze nameplates paying the respect for the winners. Overall, the culture of BWH embodies the visions and commitment of the hospital, highlights the responsibilities and missions of medical professional, and manifests the specialties and innovation of various departments, making patients and staff feel the love and warmth of the hospital.

Brigham and Women's Hospital is one of the main teaching hospitals of Harvard Medical School. It has been consistently ranked as one of America's Best Hospitals by U.S. News & World Report for its excellence and innovation in medical service, scientific research. The visit of BWH is the important work of international cooperation of our hospital. The delegation sincerely invites leaders and experts of BWH to visit our hospital and have a primary assessment for potential collaboration, which would lay a solid foundation for signing MOU and exploring the prospect of collaboration.
